    What is Naturopathy?

The principles of Naturopathy were first used by the Hippocratic School of Medicine in about 400 B.C.  The Greek philosopher Hippocrates believed in viewing the whole person in regards to finding a cause of disease, and using the laws of nature to induce cure.  It was from this original school of thought that Naturopathy takes its principles.

    • The healing power of nature – nature has the innate ability to heal

    • Identify and treat the cause – there is always an underlying cause, be it physical or emotional

    • Do no harm – a naturopath will never use treatments that may create other conditions

    • Treat the whole person – when preparing a treatment plan, all aspects of a person’s being are taken into consideration

    • The physician as teacher – a naturopath empowers the patient to take responsibility for his / her own health by teaching self-cure

    • Prevention is the best medicine

    What is Herbal Medicine?

When nature produces symptoms as a warning that a condition in your body needs correcting, herbal medicines work with nature, assisting you with its healing effects by supplying the essential elements for an effective recovery.  The Greek physician, Dioscorides, in the first century A.D., applied the knowledge gained about the properties of plants useful to man and his Materia Medica is still referred to as one of the most accurate and learned in the practice of natural medicine today.

Drugs and in-organic medicines often suppress chronic disease manifestations which frequently reappear at a later time in other more serious forms with most drugs having some adverse side effects which often accumulate causing further health problems.  Many pharmaceuticals drugs are actually synthetic isolations of the active ingredients of herbs and it’s this isolation which cause the imbalances.  An analogy could be made between wholemeal and white bread.  Wholemeal bread has whole grains.  Whereas, white bread have been made using isolations (or only part of the wholegrain) which cause imbalances resulting in a lower nutrient value and synergistic effect.  But without a doubt, in the case of serious disease and accidents, drugs can be life saving.

Herbs are simply - synergistic with the body

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
